Our Stores In 2001, retromodern decided to dramatically increase the size of its physical space ... consolidating offices, stock, and creating an architecturally stimulating environment for our customers.
retromodern's new space opened in late February 2001 and features wrap-around floor to ceiling glass windows, an arcade entrance, rubber and concrete floors and 15 foot ceilings.
With retromodern's new space, we opened an Alessi Flagship Store like those in London, Tokyo, Oslo, Milan, Helsinki, and Stockholm, with an interior designed by Atelier Mendini. 1,000 square feet of floor space is committed to the Alessi Flagship Store which sports light pink terrazzo floors, Mendini-designed cabinets and fixtures in yellow and silver, and elaborate, colorful Bisazza wall mosaics ... just to mention a few of the elements.
And... as part of our store development, in 2002 we undertook an expansion into the space next to retromodern.com opening a Kartell Flagship store which was designed by Ferruccio Laviani. The 1,300 square foot space also features 15' ceilings and incorporates the design elements which have begun to characterize similar Kartell Flagship stores in major cities around the world.
The retromodern space afforded the opportunity to create specific "boutiques" for major lines that we carry including Mono, Iittala, Rosendahl, Stelton, and Rosenthal by creating identities within our overall space for these manufacturers.
Other elements of our overall space include a 30 foot light-up curved wall from France, 132 linear feet of multi-tiered glass suspension shelving for accessories, a 28 foot high objects grid which bisects both levels of our space, as well as platforms featuring Sottsass designs for Abet Laminati.
